Welcome

Let me start by sending out 1,967 'mahalos' to those who voted for me in the Primary Election on September 20, 2008; to know there are that many people in District IX that would like me to represent them as their Councilman is humbling, encouraging, and incredibly rewarding.  Though I'm sorry to say it was not enough to get to the general election, it does lead me to conclude that with enough time, funding, and support in future elections, we can certainly secure a victory!

I would also like to thank my two competitors, Councilman Nestor Garcia, and Mr. Emil Svrcina.  In this modern world of ugly politics, these two gentlemen were consumate professionals, and never once engaged in contentious behavior or personal attacks.  For this, I have the utmost respect for Messrs. Garcia and Svrcina, and sincerely believe any one of us would have served in the best interest of our district.

Finally, I would like to thank those that believed in me enough to make it possible for me to run, especially those that helped me strategize, educated me on complex issues, contributed to my campaign, or helped me wave signs until their arms fell off!  A very special 'thank you' goes out to my treasurer Jeremiah Matthews, and to my campaign manager and wife, Stephanie Widner.

Only time will tell what political endeavor I pursue next, but rest assured that now that I have had an opportunity to go out and make a difference in my community, you will hear from me again soon!

With sincere gratitude...

Lance Widner

Global Exposure, Local Impact.

My name is Lance Widner, and I'm running for Honolulu City Council District 9, which encompasses Mililani Town, Waipahu, Waikele, Royal Kunia, Vilage Park, and Makakilo. As the government affairs chair in Royal Kunia for the past three years I have been exposed to many of the issues facing our community and leeward Oahu. I know what has been done well, and I know what can be improved upon. As campaign season gets under way, please be on the lookout for me, whether it be on television, in the newspaper, the radio, at your local neighborhood board meeting, or in your community. If for some reason we don't meet personally when I come to your door, please spend some time looking around my website. Learn where I stand on tough issues, take a few moments to fill out my survey, and write to let me know how we can make the future of Oahu brighter. I'm Lance Widner, and I will see you on election day!

My Goals

1) Increase voter turnout and government participation among the 18-35 crowd here in Hawaii.
2) Promote 'smart' growth in leeward Oahu by requiring roads, sewers, and schools to be in place before residential construction begins.
3) Increase cooperation between city and state when accidents occur on our roads to minimize traffic delays.
4) Decrease congestion/commuter costs and increase efficiency by exploring 'work-from-home' alternatives, satellite offices, staggered work weeks, and mixed-use zoning.
